Halloween Classroom Activities: Pac-O-Lantern Lights the Way!

Halloween has always been my favorite holiday. A day where you can dress up as anyone you want and people give you candy? What’s not to love?!

Imagine my excitement when I came to work for MIND and discovered that my amazing colleagues share my love for Halloween. We’re talking a deep love—like costumes at work, decorations, and even JiJi-inspired pumpkins! We’re not shy about it either, you can see past posts that share our Halloween cheer.

Thankfully my creative friends, Julie and Jo, helped to bring a few treats to ST Math users this October with fun ST Math Halloween classroom activities.

Halloween Pac-O-Lantern Coloring Sheet

Celebrate fall with a fun coloring sheet! JiJi is at a Pumpkin Paco Patch and has spotted a ghost! But at closer glance, JiJi's actually found Paco in a costume next to a friendly Pac-o-lantern. Print out this sheet and use crayons, markers, or your favorite art supplies to complete the scene.

Be sure to share your art with us when you're finished. We would love to see it!

Pac-O-Lantern Stencil

You may recognize Paco as JiJi's friend, who is also featured in various ST Math puzzles. Now, instead of a jack-o-lantern, you can make your very own Pac-o-lantern!Pac-o-lantern-stencil

Pac-O-lantern Directions:

  1. Select the right stencil based on the size of the pumpkin that you’ll be carving. There is a large Pac-o-lantern stencil and a small Pac-o-lanern stencil.
  2. After cleaning out your pumpkin, tape the Pac-o-lantern stencil to the pumpkin.
  3. Using a thumbtack or pumpkin poker, poke holes every 1/4 inch along the outlines of the stencil.
  4. Remove the paper template from the pumpkin.
  5. Carve along the pierced lines to cut out bits of pumpkin and reveal Pac-o-lantern's face.
  6. When you're done carving your pumpkin, it's time to make Pac-o-lantern's wig!

Pac-O-lantern’s Wig:

  1. Color Paco’s leaf wig using your favorite hue of green (or print it out on green paper).
  2. Cut along the dashed lines.
  3. Push out the cut X line to make a Paco leaf wig for your pumpkin.
  4. Voila! Your Pac-o-lantern is ready!

Be sure to share your creations online and tag us! We’d love to see them. You can find us on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and LinkedIn. Or, you can email photos to info@stmath.com.
