Irvine, Calif., Mar 4, 2015 MIND Research Institute has hired Karin Wu as Vice President of Engagement to lead its marketing, communications, and community outreach team. Wu brings more than 20 years of leadership and marketing experience in a variety of sectors including education, videogames and nonprofits.
At MIND, Wu will be responsible for managing the organization’s marketing strategy and brand reputation, which includes the highly-regarded ST Math® software program used in schools and the new MathMINDs initiative, which brings math out of the classroom and into the community with free events.
“Karin Wu brings energy, enthusiasm and a fresh perspective to our efforts to creatively engage schools and the community in solving America’s math education crisis,” said Matthew Peterson, Ph.D., CEO and co-founder of MIND. “I’m delighted to welcome her to MIND’s leadership team as we continue seeking solutions that help all students excel.”
Wu most recently served as Executive Director of Inspire Youth Project, a Seattle nonprofit focused on social and emotional development of at-risk youth. Prior to that, she was the academic director and an instructor at The Art Institute of Seattle. She has also served in sales and marketing management roles at Educational Software Partners International, Riverdeep Interactive/Edmark and Nintendo.
“MIND Research Institute is a unique organization that’s already making a tremendous impact on society through its work in math education,” said Wu. “Gaining additional mindshare in the education market and the community for MIND is a challenge I embrace.”
She assumes the position previously held by Ingrid Ellerbe, who was promoted to Chief of Staff last year.
Wu holds a master’s of arts degree in education leadership from Argosy University, a bachelor’s of international business administration from St. Mary’s University, and an associate’s in applied arts from the Art Institute of Seattle. She is fluent in Mandarin Chinese, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.
