MIND Research Institute Announces New Chief Financial Officer

Irvine, Calif., April 5, 2018 Education nonprofit MIND Research Institute has announced the addition of Josephine (Jo) Garrett as Chief Financial Officer. Garrett will oversee the organization’s finance, accounting, human resources and legal activities. She will lead all financial operations as MIND expands its award-winning programs and services to more students and educators.

“I am extremely pleased to welcome Jo to our team where she will certainly make an immediate impact as we continue to grow and scale ST Math,” said Brett Woudenberg, MIND Research Institute Chief Executive Officer. “Her varied industry experience and impressive financial acumen will be a tremendous asset. I am confident her contributions are going to play a major role in shaping a bright future for MIND.”

Garrett most recently held contract CFO/Chief Operating Officer roles as an independent consultant in the media and entertainment industry. She was also CEO, COO and CFO for various businesses including dftba.com, an e-commerce merchandise company specializing in online video, and Bandmerch, a licensing and merchandising company for musical artists. Garrett spent eight years in London working in the media services industry throughout Europe.  In addition to co-owning an established Orange County franchise, Garrett has extensive experience in the digital media, entertainment, licensing and merchandising, wholesale distribution, and e-commerce industries.

Building on the proven efficacy of ST Math, MIND is uniquely positioned as a leader in the edtech space from both the neuroscience and social impact perspective,” stated Garrett. “As the mother of two young daughters, I can see first-hand how MIND is changing the way children learn. Garrett holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a Bachelors in Government from Harvard University. She has also devoted much of her personal time to tutoring and mentoring elementary school students, and has served on Los Angeles Works’ “Let’s Read” program within the Mar Vista housing project.
