When you think of holiday celebrations, things like hot cocoa, extra time with family and friends, and maybe even snow come to mind! We know the holiday season can be busy, and with December, comes winter break. How can you keep students engaged with math during this time?
We often get this question from caring parents, teachers, and administrators. If your school has ST Math®, the PreK-8 visual instructional program that leverages the brain's innate spatial-temporal reasoning ability to solve mathematical problems, you can encourage students to make it part of their holiday celebrations!
Whether participating in our Winter Break Challenge, using one of our many free coloring sheets, or interacting with a STEAM activity from ourWinter STEAM Activity and Christmas STEAM Activity Pinterest boards, students have many options to keep learning over their break. Check out these opportunities below in detail.
Join the ST Math Winter Break Challenge
Students using ST Math at home during winter break can join in the Winter Break Challenge. This challenge asks students to mark their progress and track their minutes every time they use ST Math.
Students are encouraged to complete one of many listed projects. They can choose to sharpen their math vocabulary by creating a math story, exercise their creativity by designing an advertisement, or amplify their problem-solving abilities by designing a game. When students return from break, students can share what they created and celebrate reaching their goals with the class.
We have a new coloring sheet to kick off the winter season! Help JiJi and Paco get ready for the holidays by decorating these cookies and sweets. We've left one gingerbread cookie blank so you can color it in as yourself or someone you admire!
Celebrate with JiJi and Paco! On the coloring sheet below, share something that you're proud of or reveal a goal that you've worked really hard to achieve this year. Or, tell us what your goal is in math for the new year. This coloring sheet and writing prompt will help warm up the holidays, even on the chilliest days!
With your help, ST Math is reaching more students than ever. We are so thankful to our partners, donors, and ST Math champions for being a critical part of MIND's mission. Thank you for helping us to ensure that all students are mathematically equipped to solve the world's most challenging problems.
Here's one more fun, free gift from JiJi, Paco, and all your friends at MIND. Enjoy our annual digital holiday card, which can be downloaded as a wallpaper for your phone or desktop by clicking the image below.
