MIND Research Institute’s Sums & Solutions Blog Receives Two SIPAwards

Washington, D.C., Jun 15, 2015 MIND Research Institute’s blog Sums & Solutions has received two awards from the Specialized Information Publishers Association's (SIPA) annual competition for excellence in editorial writing and marketing. The blog won 3rd place for Best Blog or Commentary and for Best Instructional Reporting.

The 2015 SIPAwards competition received 207 entries in 23 categories, with judging conducted by a group of industry peers. The awards were presented at SIPA’s annual conference in Washington, D.C., on June 3.

MIND launched Sums and Solutions in 2013 to serve as an online community exploring the national movement toward digital K-12 learning, and as a forum to share successes and challenges from the classroom. Since then, guest bloggers have included superintendents, principals, teachers, executives, philanthropists and others interested in blended learning and closing the achievement gap.

“We’re honored that Sums & Solutions has been recognized by our peers for excellence,” said Karin Wu, Vice President of Engagement for MIND Research Institute. “These awards reflect a true group effort, encompassing thoughtful blog contributions from our many colleagues, philanthropic partners and educational leaders who share our mission to transform math education.”

“Sums & Solutions Blog” won 3rd place for “Best Blog or Commentary” based on three editorials:

“A Latina’s Perspective: Preparing the Next Generation of STEM Latino Leaders”
“IX Reasons Why STEM Needs Title IX: Lessons from Center Court”
“Building a Foundation for Success for Black Boys and Men: Start Early, Start Strong.”

“ST Math Tips for Teachers and Parents,” tied for third place in the “Best Instructional Reporting” category with a series of posts offering practical advice for educators and parents about getting the most out of math education in general, and the ST Math program specifically. The pieces were authored by educators and members of MIND’s Education Success team.

“Perfect Pair: Cognitive Guided Instruction and ST Math”
“Teachers: Your Students Know More Than You Think”
