Orange County Plays Bingo in Support of Math Education

Irvine, Calif., Mar 14, 2014 More than 120 math education supporters gathered at Strawberry Farms Golf Club on March 13 for MIND Research Institute’s inaugural Wild West Charity Bingo Night. The proceeds from the event will support the education and neuroscience nonprofit’s mission to ensure that all students are mathematically equipped to solve the world’s most challenging problems.

Attendees enjoyed 10 rounds of bingo, team math challenges and other activities designed to channel the spirit of the Wild West. In addition to raffle prizes donated from companies and individuals in Orange and Los Angeles Counties, pies from Orange County’s top bakeries were auctioned off in honor of Pi Day on March 14 and to celebrate mathematics. Event sponsors included Tarsadia Foundation, MIND Research board member Donald Garcia, Jim and Gail Daniels and Kettlebell Advantage.

To add to the fun, MIND Research COO and Co-founder Matthew Peterson, Ph.D. introduced guests to Bingo-themed math challenges. In his remarks, Dr. Peterson emphasized the need to transform education. “We’re trying to create a learning revolution, which is a major shift from teacher-by-telling to learning-by-doing,” he said. “This is the learning revolution MIND Research Institute is making happen with our math education programs.”

Bingo Night launched MIND Research’s 2014 event season and is the first of several events aimed at generating awareness about the nonprofit’s efforts to close the math achievement gap for students across the country.
