Goldberg Galore

CBSRC
West School

Game description: Our game has several math concepts featured. In our algebra equations, we will have a multiplication problem and there will be a letter and you will have to find out what that letter represents. For instance, 27XC=459. Another concept that we will have in our game is adding fractions. Adding fractions is where there are 2 or more fractions and you have to add them up. Our third concept is reduced fractions. In our reduced fractions concept, we will have a multiplication number model in fractions and you would need to solve it then figure out the reduced fraction of the answer that you figured out. When you reduce fractions you have to find the lowest fraction of the fraction that you started with. Our next concept is division. In our division equations, you will have to figure out the answer to a division number model. For instance, 286=? and you would have to figure out a problem like that. Another concept is order of operations. Order of operations is the placement of the number and how to find the right answer to a problem. Since we are doing 2 or more part math questions, the order of operation is very important to get the right answer. Our sixth concept is addition. In addition, we will have some advanced 2 part addition equations. We will mostly have addition in our Easy level because everybody knows how to add. Sometimes, there will be an addition problem and a multiplication problem in 1 problem like this (85 +33) 4? and you would have to figure it out. That is the addition concept. Our seventh and last concept is subtraction. In our subtraction equations, we will have advanced subtraction like addition. Also like addition, we will mix concepts for subtraction too. Here is a problem we might have for subtraction. 968-5754-86= ? and you would have to figure out the problem.
The maximum number of people who can play is 5. The minimum number of players is 3. 1 answer checker and 4 players (2 on each team) or 1 answer checker and 2 players.
To win you have to build a working Rube Goldberg machine with pieces from around the board. To get the pieces you have to answer a math problem correctly. There are 4 levels Easy, Medium, Hard, and Extreme. We will have a “Thinking Board” for you use to help figure out the answer to the problem. The Answer Checker also checks the work on the Thinking Board.

  • To win you have to make a working Rube Goldberg with the materials that you have on you material card.
  • You can only use the materials on your game card, not more, not less.
  • You cannot look at the answer key, only your partner can.
  • If you land on a material that you already have, you would just end your turn and not take the same piece again.
  • To get the materials you have to answer the math question correctly.
  • You have to get all of your materials before you start making your Rube Goldberg machine.
  • You get 1-2 minutes (using a timer) to solve each problem depending on the level of the problem.
