Count the Calories

Count the Calories
Merced City School District
S.T.E.A.M. Center

Game description: The objective of our game is to burn the most calories the fastest and to race to the finish line. The math concepts used are addition and subtraction.

  • Everybody gets a tally sheet and starts off with 2,000 calories.
  • Take turns playing from youngest to oldest.
  • Every player rolls the dice and moves that number of spaces on the board.
  • You now choose a “good” card. You can either do the activity on the card or decide to take a “bad” card.
  • The card they are going to be picking from is the “Good Card Deck.” Each card has an exercise on the back and how many calories are in the front. You may get a number on the card, which you would have to subtract that number from what you have on the tally sheet.
  • If the player chooses not to do the activity, they move one space back and they have to take a card from the bad deck. The calories on the bad card would need to be added to their number of calories they have.
  • The first one to reach the finish line ends the game and gets to subtract 1,000 calories from their total. The person with the least amount of calories wins the game.
