WHAT: A public-private partnership between Huntington Beach City School District, Chevron and the non-profit MIND Research Institute is expanding a popular visual math program to seven local schools to elevate math achievement and develop the next generation of innovators and problem solvers. The program combines self-paced, computer-based math games with classroom instruction in what educators call a “blended learning” environment. Students, teachers, administrators and corporate executives will gather to celebrate the expansion of the ST Math program which is proven to double students’ growth in math proficiency, and is already used successfully at several schools in the district. Research shows that early math skills are the number one indicator of later academic success, high school graduation rates and college matriculation – as well as an essential foundation in the high-demand science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
