Orange County Ponies Up to Support Math Education

Irvine, Calif., Jan 23, 2015 More than 100 people gathered at Strawberry Farms Golf Club on January 22 to support math education through MIND Research Institute’s sold-out Wild West Charity Bingo Night. Proceeds from the event will support the social benefit organization’s mission to ensure that all students are mathematically equipped to solve the world’s most challenging problems.

Attendees dressed in chaps, boots and cowboy hats played 10 rounds of bingo called by Legendary Bingo's own Bingo Boy, Jeffrey Bowman. Between games, guests competed in math challenge bingo and issued warrants to send one another to be booked into the Wild West Jail. Drawings for donated prizes included give-aways of a golf package, tickets to musical theater, a flight simulator experience, original artwork and more. Humana Ahmed of Comerica won a MIND Research-facilitated Family Math Night at the school of her choice.

“Giving our children math skills means opening doors to opportunity and success in the innovation economy,” said Janine Ingram, Vice President of Philanthropy at MIND Research. “We’re grateful to our national sponsors and community friends who turned out to support math education while proving that playing with numbers is fun.”

Event sponsors included Bank of America, Comerica Bank, Gail and Jim Daniels, Pinnacle Consulting Group, Ann McDonald, Matthew and Roberta Jenkins Foundation, and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
This was MIND’s second annual bingo night. The event is part of MIND’s MathMINDs Initiative to take math beyond the classroom and create a community around math appreciation. For more information about MathMINDs and to get involved, visit www.mindresearch.org/outreach/mathminds/.
