MIND Research Institute Named as Partner in 100Kin10, National Network to Grow STEM Teaching Force

Irvine, Calif., Feb 12, 2014 MIND Research Institute has been named a partner organization for the national multi-sector network, 100Kin10. The network added 31 partners that will focus on helping train 100,000 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teachers by the year 2021. This recognition by 100Kin10 follows similar recognition for exemplary work in K-12 and STEM education by both Change the Equation and the Business Roundtable.

With nearly 200 organizations participating, the network is focused on better preparing students with the skills needed to enter college and careers. The participating organizations believe that teachers need to be better prepared in order to achieve this goal. 100Kin10 partners are committed to providing all American students, with basic STEM skills and knowledge needed to compete in a global marketplace.

As part of 100Kin10, MIND has committed to retain excellence and build momentum around the movement. In order to obtain excellence, by 2018 MIND will ensure that 15,000 teachers will know how to use digital tools to provide a transformed learning experience for students in mathematics. MIND will build the movement by leveling the playing field for math literacy in Kindergarten and the early learning math classroom while also demonstrating that digital tools enable all K-12 teachers and students to provide effective, age-appropriate math learning environments.

Today’s workforce will require a strong set of STEM skills, and we need teachers that are prepared to share that knowledge with students. 100Kin10 will continue to increase and retain the number of STEM teachers in all of our nation’s schools, and MIND is excited to be part of the network,” said Matthew Peterson, Ph.D., co-founder, COO and Senior Scientist at MIND Research Institute.

MIND and other new partners were accepted as 100Kin10 partners following a rigorous vetting process conducted by a team of partner reviewers and the University of Chicago. Reviewers look for organizations that bring innovation, boldness, and a proven track-record to their commitment toward expanding, improving, and retaining the best of the nation’s STEM teaching force, or building the 100Kin10 movement.

“MIND is committed to providing innovative resources to teachers around the nation to strengthen STEM and blended learning environments,” said Dr. Peterson.

Adding to a large list of partners, some of the new organizations also added include Agile Mind, Education Development Center, Inc., LessonSketch and Today’s Students Tomorrow’s Teachers.
